Hey fine people.
If you do a quick google search, you’ll know the best way to pick out the right ring for your bride is to have her pick it herself. Fellas…don’t waste time in trying to surprise her. Having photographed loads of weddings, I know for a fact that this is true- most couples DO shop for rings together. So naturally, picking out a ring for my bride would be completely easy. I’ll just take Lola to the stores…and have her pick her favorite. No need for me to play any guessing game. Boom…done!
My bride went to the store with me once…and was completely overwhelemed with all the options. So we thought we’d go to a few different stores later…until she finds the right one. Short story…that didn’t happen! Lola’s statement was “…you know, you should just surprise me. I’m sure whatever you pick would be nice.” ERROR!!! Agreeing to this was the biggest mistake any guy can make.
First thing I did was ask her sister, Yewande. Yewande came back with about 6 options ranging from a nicely priced ring to a ring Will and Kate would consider pricey! So I had to figure out what cut she wanted, what color and clarity was do-able, etc. Not an easy task.
I spent countless hours at the jewelrey store. I looked at photos from past clients, looked at all kinds of rings online, and still continued to ask Lola what she thought. All I got was…”don’t get yellow gold” or something like that. Hmm….I was tempted to use the money to buy some nice photo gear.
Anyway…one day, I just decided I had to get this ring NOW! So I went to a store my friend Tracy recommended, and spent close to 5 hours going through a possible ring for my bride. 5 hours!!! I know just about everything there is to know about the sales lady and engagement rings.
All in all…Lola wanted something classy, modern and simple. I think I was able to deliver…I mean she said yes, right?
