Restaurant Love!

we love Cityzen!!!!

Wale and I had dinner at Cityzen in DC to celebrate our wedding anniversary; we had an awesome time! The staff at Cityzen were the absolute best! I mean it was no cheap meal but in our opinion it was worth every penny.

When I called to make the reservation, they asked if we were celebrating anything special and I told them it was our wedding anniversary. Boy.. I didn’t know what they were planning to do. I thought they would tell us happy anniversary and call it a night; they did more than that!

Their menu is quite interesting. Wale had the Chef’s tasting menu which was a 6-course pre-fix meal (all his food was selected for him). I had a 4-course meal from the menu; so I had options on what I could eat but it had to be 4 courses. I was totally stuffed after the 2nd course, lol! One of the delicious courses I got… slow cooked lamb with spring garlic stuffed crepe. The lamb was divine!

Cityzen really treated us well though. They first gave us a card signed by all staff at the restaurant

After all our main courses, they gave us a complimentary dessert…

They also gave us complimentary drinks and another set of desserts including mini macaroons, chocolate etc. Finally, they gave us a goody bag with desserts, tea and coffee for us to enjoy the next day.

All in all.. awesome experience. Excuse my not so good quality photos… they were taken from my ipod.

If you want to celebrate something/someone special and have some change to spare… go to Cityzen!:-)We love!!

1st Year Anniversary! LOLAWALE

It’s been one year already! Wale and I are extremely grateful to God for seeing us through YEAR ONE. Wale and I heard soooo many things about what would happen in our first year of marriage. Some people said it would be the toughest year; some said it would be the best year. For us, it has been our best year yet, thanks to God! But I must say, marriage is a good thing!!! When you are with the right person I guess? And definitely with God.

Wale and I have had our fair share of “arguments” during this first year. They have mainly centered around … “I thought you said you would do this? No, I didn’t. Why didn’t you tell me about xyz”. But, we have learned to communicate better. We have also grown a lot closer to each other and to God.

Thanks to our family and friends for the love and support shown to us; also to those who have left comments on our blog and finally those who just visit our blog… we will try to post more:-)

Almost one year later, we finally had our post wedding photoshoot with our awesome wedding photographer, Dotun Ayodeji. We woke up at 3am, sheesh! It was worth it though. A few pictures below. More photos will come later. I love love love the images! Enjoy!

Preparing for the first dance

I know…I know…it’s just dancing.

But this is actually a big part of the day. Literally, all eyes are on you. I know folks that don’t think about it till the wedding day itself, and some stress over it. Lola and I decided we wanted to do something special, and have fun. Something to make sure our guests would not get bored looking at us.

There was just one problem…my 2 year old nephew can dance better than me! I’m a keep it simple, left to right, kind of a guy. Lola on the other hand has been in dance groups, and can probably enter dancing competitions anywhere in the world. Here are some things we quickly decided to do to help US ME with that special first dance as husband and wife.

Kept the dance short. We felt like people start zoning out after 2 mins of any song (ask any good DJ).

Danced to a couple of songs. Yes. We decided to go with 3 different songs. About a minute each. The songs we selected were up-beat, semi up-beat and a slow one. The favorite was “You’re the one that I want” from the movie Grease.

Communicate with our DJ before the wedding day on what songs we selected. Also, very important, on when to transition the songs. Since we only used about a minute of each song we wanted to make sure he had it right. And since I have two left feet, we were going to practice. Which brings me to the next thing…

Practiced. I’d be honest with you…we didn’t practice till two nights before. We both had crazy schedules leading to the wedding. So that part had me nervous on the wedding day. But I think we pulled it off. Lola gave me a passing grade:-)

Since we are Nigerians, there’s a chance some folks would want to shower us with money while we danced. Believe me…I wanted to be showered with money at any opportunity possible. LOL. But we had our MC announce to folks not to interrupt us during our first dance. There would be many other opportunities for this (as you saw in our wedding video).

Some addtitional tips…

If possible create a back up CD of the music you plan on using. If it’ll be multiple songs, like ours, write down the transition points. Any professional DJ would be prepared, but it doesn’t hurt for you to have a back up.

Last thing I want to say…and I think it’s the most important part. Be into each other when you’re dancing – forget the cameras and your guests. It put me at ease when I was looking at Lola. And I almost forgot people were looking at us.

p.s., all photos by Dotun Ayodeji.
