Bridesmaid V

Hi everyone,

I am almost done with my bridesmaids series so stay tuned!

Introducing Lolade Pearse aka LP, Elpizzle, Elpizzle ma nizzle for shizzle!!! ! I met LP in NC through DamyB when I used to visit Dami while in undergrad. I don’t remember the exact second we met but since then we’ve been mad cool.  This babe is the definition of COOL, CALM & COLLECTED!!! I don’t think anyone has ever met LP and not fallen in love. She is mad cool, level headed, down to earth and doesn’t give a hoot about what people have to say as long as she is doing her and doing what she believes is right, she is very content, lol! I mean, she cut her hair and grew dreads, she braved the whole thing and she looks amazing!

LP has been an extremely good friend; she always lends a good ear and lets you know how it is. I remember all the fun times in NC; LP – I hope you have destroyed that “video”, hahahahaha!  She is also mad talented – Az’ure in the house! LP has her own label, check her out. Through LP, I have also met another group of babes that are mad cool!!!! Over the years I have become very close to them. I love you guys, you know who you are:-)

Thanks Pizzle for everything and also being an amazing model for bridesmaids dresses. Luv ya! MUAH!

Shoes

Soooo… I do not have my wedding shoes yet, yikes!

Well, I have a “backup” but I am not sure if I am 100% sold. I know it’s getting late, at this point I think I will go with whatever. It’s sooo hard for me to make a decision; I don’t know why. I guess I am trying to decide if I want something colored? Or if I want something plain aka earth tones.

What do you guys think? I hear colored shoes are in “style” at the moment. At the end of the day, my shoes will not show anyway, just in pictures I guess. I hear the famous brands are the likes of badgely mischka, jimmy choo etc. If anyone has suggestions on where I can find shoes, please let me know. Mucho appreciated! Heel height is also a problem, I do not want my shoes to be higher than 2.5inches; 3 max. I also found DIY (Do it Yourself) ways to accesories shoes –

(c) green wedding shoes

Nice yea???

Anyhue, hopefully the decision is made soonest!

I also came across this as I was searching for shoes – http://www.heelsabove.com/. Some of you might have seen the product before. It is a heel protector specially made to protect the heel from sinking into grass or mud. Since my wedding is an outdoor wedding and I know how annoying it is to have my heels sinking into the grass, these should come in handy. I have ordered a pair, I hope they work! Feel free to order these for outdoor weddins you plan on attending.

Happy rest of the day:-)

May 10, 2012 - 9:01 pm

Wale - may i suggest a sparkly pair of TOMS. looks really good and you can’t beat the comfort babe.

May 11, 2012 - 3:11 pm

Temi - Tell me about it, finding/deciding on shoes is so difficult mehn. But I am sure the right pair will come your way soon. Here are a few suggestions I can remember I am sure you have probable already visited all these, but just in case, try Lastcall, ruelala, giltz, ideeli, endless, piperlime, heels…… all .com lol

Good luck……few more weeks :)

P.S. Lol at Wale, she is not wearing toms

May 14, 2012 - 5:56 pm

Baby - Wow!!!very creative on the “do it yourself”

Well I think an additional plus for color shoes is that you’ll more than likely rerock it after the wedding. I guess same applies to some nude/earth colors. “White typical” wedding shoes will probably just sit in your closet forever.

Hmmmm that heel cover is not a bad idea. Perhaps you should have included the link on the invites to female friends :)

Wale you are so silly :)

May 15, 2012 - 4:32 am

Temitopsy - lol @ Wale
Get colored shoes!!! They pop more under a white dress than white or earth colors. See how the badgley mischka ones pop compared to the others *wink**

May 15, 2012 - 4:45 am

Lola - @Baby.. true! Hopefully people see this post. I will try to spread the word.

@Temitopsy & Baby.. i think I agree with you guys on colored shoes. d search continues :-)

or - This has to be one of the smartest things ive ever seen!!!!
this is like one of those ideas they present on dragons den!!!

Wedding Dress!

My dress arrived almost two weeks ago and I finally had a chance to try it on at the store two days ago, yay!!! On my way to the store, I kept wondering if I would still like the dress, how it would fit etc. I must say I left the store cheesing from ear to ear. It is exactly what I wanted and I still love it, yay!!! I have to do a few fittings here n there but all in all, not too bad. Thanks sis dearest for accompanying me, xoxo!

My bridesmaids dresses also arrived and I picked those up yesterday; they are gorgggg! I am not sure if I mentioned this, but I ordered the dresses from Bella Bridesmaids in Bethesda, MD. They have a wide variety of dresses so I would recommend anyone looking to definitely try them out.

Bridesmaid IV

The next bridesmaid I would like to introduce you too is Josephine Silla aka Jojo, Jojo-ba, Jojo-condi, Jojo-shampoo! :-). Jojo is my “dark skinned almost twin, hehe. This gal has been a “pest” since I met her in Trinity International College, Ogun State, Nigeria (high school), SERIOUSLY. She used to disturb my life and chase me around the female dormitory, lol! Everyone thought we were crazy. She also took over from me as the Sports Prefect, I trained her well, I must say! We’ve had sooo many fun times together from Nigeria to here in DC. Did I mention this babe is an extremely talented artist; she has a music video out yo! Yay, I know a celebrity:-)

I love you to pieces and won’t trade you for anything or anyone. MUAH!

Have a great weekend everyone!

May 5, 2012 - 10:06 pm

She - Can I just say I think you two are just sooooo cute!!!

Lola, I think you have such amazing friendships! Funny how most of them are from high school! Don’t know if I have this many friends from high school!

Gosh! I LOVE this blog:)

Side questionn: Have you picked a song to walk down the aisle with yet?

May 7, 2012 - 4:19 pm

Wale - JOJOCHOCOMILO. she had the nices collections of sneakers. now…na so-so pumps!! can’t wait for her new music (coming soon i hope).

Bridesmaid III

Happy Sunday all!

In response to Wale’s last post about love languages, he is right, women change quite a bit; at least I change quite a bit. My love language varies depending on the situation or who it is coming from. My love language with a regular friend is different from my love language with Wale. In response to Nguyiman (aka Baby) – I like to make everyone else feel comfortable but I do not necessarily need it back. You get? I mean I do like to get pampered, who doesn’t?!?!:-)

Wale is right, when it comes to him and me, my love language is Words of Affirmation. I also like Physical Touch (don’t let your minds wonder ooo!!! I just like when we take walks and hold hands). Wale’s love language is definitely Quality Time. He usually just wants to hang out and we do not have to be doing anything at all.

We had a great time during our marriage counseling class. We sure did learn a lot. I also liked the session on finances and having a joint account or not. This has been a topic of discussion for a while now. I love to hear different peoples opinion on the matter and if it worked or didn’t work for them. My wonderful friends hosted a shower for me in December and this was another major topic. Wale and I will be trying out different things with regards to our finances and by Gods grace, we will figure out the perfect situation that works for us (keep us in your prayers).

Aside – I need to vent a bit about our guest list. But this will be for another day!:-)

Next, I would like to introduce Bridesmaid III, weee! Meet Olatoke Awoseyi aka Toksy babe, Tawke. Toke is the younger sister I never had. She is truly an amazing person. I have known her since we were pretty young; our families are close friends. I don’t even remember what age, maybe 5? Toke used to spend nights and weekends at my place growing up and I think she attended Trinity International College (a secondary school in Nigeria) because I was there. Toke, it paid off yea??? Lol! This babe is extremely funny; she is selfless, reliable and easy going. She has supported me in everything. Did I mention that her parents are mad cool?!?!?  I introduced her to Wale and they gelled immediately. I am sooooo happy to have you as one of my bridesmaids. Love you booo!!!!!!!!

throwback –

April 30, 2012 - 1:22 pm

Wale - I tried to see if I could have Toke as one of my ‘groomsmaid’ but Lola won’t allow it.

April 30, 2012 - 10:53 pm

Shile - Yayyy it is officially 60 days to your weddings. How exciting. Please post all you can before the wedding is over for blog stalkers like me. After June 30th, there will be no more updates sniff sniff……..or will there? You can totally update us on your married life, your kids, and their graduations, their own weddings; you can keep life going on the blog till you are 100 or more lol. Don’t mind me I’m kidding. I love your blog though; it definitely shows the light and playful side of wedding planning.

April 30, 2012 - 11:54 pm

Lola - Thanks Shile! We will try to update as much as possible eventhough its crunch time! But, we will try our best. We plan on updating it after the wedding as well. hopefully! Countdown begins!!! :-)

May 1, 2012 - 1:27 pm

Ife - I second Shile’s comments :) Thanks for updating us with your blog posts. It has been incredibly exciting to go along on the journey with you guys. And I am certain it has been even more thrilling for you both. E ku ipalemo! Cheers.

May 1, 2012 - 5:48 pm

Baby - Lola point taken on love language…definitely changes with the who?

Lol @ Shile’s comment.

On the real, this is crunch time we need more updates, even if it means you guys sacrificing sleep time (sticks tongue out)

While Lola isn’t required to share shower or bachelorette details, Wale you are obligated to provide start-finish details on the Bach eve if not you will be fined :)

May 2, 2012 - 2:00 am

Temi - Gosh!!!! Countdown begins super excited for you guys. Lord knows I check your blog at least once a week LOL
In regards to the finances, I think it varies on each couple, its best to weigh the pros and cons of a joint account and an individual account and prayerfully and carefully decide what seems like would work best. But its great you guys are trying out different things. Cant wait for June 30!!! :)

May 2, 2012 - 3:17 am

Tolu - Lola, thanks for your advice on the photographs. I couldn’t quite tie the gele well, so we’ll see. I will share them when they are out.

It’s also interesting that we have the same love languages. Wale’s is the exact same as my fiance and you and I have the same :-)

Love Language

“Marriage is for reasonable people.” That right there summarizes our pre-marital counseling class.

Yes we took a pre-marital counseling class. Not only because it’s required by our church, but it’s something we knew we definitely needed to do. I highly recommend it. If for some reason your church doesn’t offer it, or you’re not a christian, please seek some sort of help before the wedding day. It’s the biggest investment you’ll make in your marriage.

It’s hard to imagine or think about “marriage”…when we’re busy planning the wedding. But we know that the wedding day is just…well…ONE DAY. We have the rest of our lives after that. And we plan to do more than the daily monkey dance (you will get the meaning of that at some point. LOL.).

We had about 12 classes in total and talked about various things that scared the crap out of me. LOL. But I know everything will prepare (and has prepared) us for our own marriage.

Some of the topics included- finances, general attitudes, communication, needs, sex, family, having a joint account love languages, etc. Love Languages was one of our favorite topics.

I had a general idea of what this meant before talking about it in our class but I had not really discussed with Lola it using these actual “terms.” According to the book, there are 5 major love languages (Physical Touch, Quality Time, Words of Affirmation, Receiving Gifts & Acts of Service) and mine mostly falls under Quality Time. Oh yes!!! I like to spend quality time with Lola. Traveling, watching movies or even doing nothing at all. There’s no better gift in my opinion. And I never thought I’d admit that. In my opinion…Lola’s language is…all five o!!! LOL. Okay…maybe just Receiving Gifts and Words of Affirmation (for now! i hear women change a lot).

What are your love languages?

April 25, 2012 - 5:48 pm

Temi - Awww, this update was worth the wait LOL. I think all the 5 applies to everyone but we all have our 2 main ones. My 2 main ones are Quality time and words of affirmation/GIFTS!!!! LOL Well thats more like 2 1/2 cant wait for your BIG DAY! :)

April 25, 2012 - 8:39 pm

GTB - I need a deeper understanding of Acts of Service. My love languages, well…I’m a special person (so I like to think). I don’t like hearing the words of affirmation over and over again… Receiving gifts, yeah… But sometimes not really because my love is not for sale. QUALITY TIME will be it for me. I love to hang and do absolutely nothing. Lay on the couch all day, acting a fool, watching home videos especially animation, or even just talking on the phone all day… I think I’m spilling too much… Ok that’s it! :)

April 25, 2012 - 8:52 pm

Cake and Socks - Congrats! Your are so right, one of the best investments you can make is attending counseling classes, and actually taking it seriously.

I understand all the love languages, and need every single one!! lol.

April 27, 2012 - 2:00 pm

Baby - Wow would have thought Lola to be act of service…..She always takes care of everyone, does stuff to make everyone comfy and happy.

I have to agree with faith based counseling, anytime you bring God into your relationship, it’s definitely a winning move :)

April 27, 2012 - 2:39 pm

Wale - @Baby…you are definitnely right. Acts of service is up there. But it goes in waves…like I said, women change…often. LOL.

May 9, 2012 - 8:03 pm

elizabeth - luv it!like always!!!.. i only have one … receiving gifts .. lol ..

July 17, 2012 - 11:01 pm

FlowyAbe - i love the book by Gary Chapman and have started buying it as wedding gifts for my newly married friends. A lot of people say “If only I knew this years ago, my marriage would be so different” The book rocks!!
